General Assembly Third Committee
The General Assembly Third Committee focuses on agenda items from the United Nations General Assembly relating social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world. The Committee discusses questions regarding the advancement of women, protection of children, the treatment of refugees, the promotion of fundamental freedoms through the elimination of racism, and the right to self- determination.
In addition, the Committee also addresses important social development questions such as issues relating to youth, family, ageing, persons with disabilities, crime prevention, criminal justice, and international drug control. Lastly, the General Assembly Third Committee meets to discuss the reports and advancements of the United Nations Human Rights Council established in October of 2006.
This session of the General Assembly Third Committee will focus addressing the issue of Violence Against Women with a clear focus on the situations in Nigeria and India. Delegates are expected to come prepared with a range of issues and concerns to address this topic in a comprehensive resolution form.
